46. Shallow Colander (Oribe)

45.00

Made in a white stoneware clay with a green Oribe glaze that pools blue and forms small blue crystals on the surface .

This piece starts as a simple shallow thrown bowl. its then pressed over a domed mould to form the shape and turned. The handles are the applied from a hand moulded piece of clay.

The idea came from seeing an example in a book, made the Netherlands in Earthenware clay dated from 1526-75, believed to be used for draining fresh or boiled fish. Although ideal for washing berries I found a great use for draining poached eggs by leaving it in the oven on a small plate set at 50oC

Bowl size 17.5cm w x 4.5cm high
