Annoying lost a lot of these in the last firing due to bloating. The kiln didn’t seem to fire too quickly in comparison to previous firing records. So it still feels a bit of a mystery.
It could be down to the new clay but seems unlikely as it&
Made in a different clay than usual. The body is much higher in iron giving flecks throughout the surface in different sizes. It has a much more natural look other the forced speckled clays.

This was a successful firing with really rich colour responses from the glaze.
Through trial and error I know I can apply the glaze thicker than that would what feel normal.

Despite spending what feels like every spare moment working on getting our first flat liveable, I have managed to sneak in some making time.

Although I have slowly been making in the background this year my focus has been on refurbishing the flat so we can move in as soon as possible and make it our first home.

A few of the re-made shallow bowls, this time thrown to the right size. Once they have a chance to dry a little they are pressed over a mould that I fix to the wheel with a bed of clay. The foot ring is then turned into the base.

Today I remade the shallow bowls and successfully pressed them over the mould without them splitting into 6 piece.

The mugs are thrown with 450grams of clay, which feels excessive for there scale, but the reason being is the amount needed tha
As time and deadlines have vanished I still find my self with a list of pots to make, ticking off the range one by one. So much so I miss read a measurement today and threw a whole batch of pots that were supposed to be then pressed on a mould and al
Freshly thrown shallow bowls, these are now turned, finished and are set aside to dry slowly before heading to the kiln for first firing.
I changed the design slightly to accommodate a slightly taller foot ring. It’s not a huge change but somet
When making bowls I often have a “pre-shape” this is a simple conical form thrown to a set height and width which I set the first arm of the pointer tool too shown in the top half of the image.

A closer look at the finished, not yet fired shallow colanders. This one in the higher iron clay.
I really hope this clay fires as nice as the tests, I’m getting a little carried away with using it.

I attempt to make the last pass of the turning tool loosely with the intention of keeping a little bit of life in the bowl. I’m never confident enough to go to the extreme but just the those little marks left from the tool can be highlighted or

I’ve set aside the darker clay for the blue celadon glaze. The glaze is a little opaque and seems to give a bluer response compared to being on a white clay, most likely down
Thank you for the tool orders yesterday. I had some doubts that I would have an endless supply of pointer tools and no space to keep them.
It’s a tool that’s helped me with my making no end and it’s a great thing to see them travel
